One person was killed and another injured in a shooting at Kentucky State University Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The suspected shooter has been arrested, according to Governor Andy Beshear.

Neither the shooter nor the victims were immediately identified by authorities. The injured victim is in critical condition, police said.

“We will share more information as it becomes available,” Beshear wrote on social media. “Let’s pray for everyone affected.”

The shooting happened in a dormitory, Young Hall, on the school’s Frankfurt campus, according to Louisville Fox affiliate WDRB. The school is located approximately 50 miles east of Louisville.

Alerts about an “active assailant” on campus were issued around 3:30 p.m. and police immediately responded to the scene, officials said. Police are still investigating the exact circumstances of the shooting and the university remained closed late into the evening.

Initial reports indicated the shooting was a personnel dispute and not a random active shooter event, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The killing occurred during final exam week at Kentucky State, with the school’s fall semester scheduled to end Friday.

Established in 1886, Kentucky State is the second oldest historically black university in the state and remains Kentucky’s only public HBCU. It has approximately 2,200 students.
