13 Dead, 23 Girls Missing From Summer Camp Deluged by Flooding – RedState

During a party party like independence, there is a terrible tragedy that takes place in the country of the Texas hills, in the center of the State, according to several sources, with floods forcing citizens to higher land in the midst of the 13 dead reports. There is also a summer camp for girls at risk, in Hunt, a suburb of San Antonio, because 23 girls would have disappeared in the flood.
via Texas Tribune:
The officials said that up to 13 bodies had been found and 23 Mystic camp girls, a private Christian girls camp, were not counted after a catastrophic flood that swept the county of Kerr during the night on Friday morning.
…
Up to 10 inches of heavy rains fell in a few hours during the night in the County of Kerr, causing sudden floods of the Guadalupe river. [Texas Lt. Gov. Dan] Patrick said the river, which winds in Kerr County, in central Texas, increased by 26 feet in 45 minutes during torrential rains during the night.
“It will be a mass event,” said Freeman Martin, director of Texas Department of Public Safety.
The report continued with remarks from a press conference on Friday with state officials, including Lieutenant-Governor Dan Patrick, who confirmed that out of the 13 known dead, up to 10 of their bodies were recovered:
Patrick said that the dead include adults and children, and some have been found in cars “which were swept up upstream”. He said officials do not know if one of the bodies were children of the Mystic camp and stressed that campers are only considered missing at this stage.
“We will do everything that is humanly possible to find your daughter,” said Patrick, adding that the research and rescue teams are looking for survivors, as well as 14 state helicopters, 12 drones and 400 to 500 people on the field by helping research. He added that if the parents have not been personally contacted by the camp, they can assume that their daughters have been recorded.

A separate presser held at the same time as Patrick included the sheriff of the county of Kerr Larry Leitha; He is the authority that reported that 13 died. Judge Rob Kelly, the chief elected in Kerr County, also spoke:
Asked about the sudden sudden floods overnight, Kelly said that “we do not have a warning system” and that “we did not know that this flood would arrive”, even if local journalists stressed the warnings and pushed him to respond why the precautions were not taken.
“Rest assured, no one knew that this kind of flood was going to happen,” he said. “We have floods all the time. It is the most dangerous river valley in the United States. ”
Kelly said that identifying the people recovered from the floods is a challenge:
“Most of them, we don’t know who they are,” Kelly said at a press conference. “One of them was completely naked, he had no identity document on him. We are trying to obtain the identity of these people, but we don’t have it yet.”
Managers have made dozens of rescues, and the emergency response continued as unknown number where people have remained unable, Kelly said.
State governor, Greg Abbott, has published a statement, assuring the Texans that all state resources are available to help the citizens of Hill Country at the moment. He continued:
I urge the Texans to take into account the advice of state officials and premises and to monitor local forecasts to avoid driving in flooded areas.
