2 Mexican nationals federally charged with trafficking drugs to Eugene
Two people were charged in federal court with trafficking 72 pounds of methamphetamine from Los Angeles, California, to Oregon in early November.
The individuals were identified by the U.S. Attorney’s Office as Mexican nationals. They were identified in court documents as 45-year-old Alejandra Diaz-Alcantar and 41-year-old Juan Alberto Alvarado-Gonzalez.
Both were charged by criminal complaint with conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute over 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.
According to court documents, an Oregon State Police K9 trooper stopped a white Chevrolet pickup on Interstate 5 in Lane County as part of an ongoing investigation. A search of the vehicle uncovered two duffel bags under the rear passenger seat containing 56 plastic bags and bundles of suspected methamphetamine.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said the Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating the case.
Drug trafficking between Eugene and Los Angeles
In early October, an informant told law enforcement officials Diaz-Alcantar had recently withdrawn approximately $40,000 from her bank account to travel to Los Angeles, California, to pick up a large load of drugs with the intent to transport it to Eugene.
The source also told law enforcement Diaz-Alcantar was willing to pay a driver $10,000 to drive her from California to Eugene and back. They said they personally observed both methamphetamine and cocaine inside Diaz-Alcantar’s residence between Oct. 7 and Oct. 13.
According to court documents, the source also told law enforcement Diaz-Alcantar sold both methamphetamine and cocaine locally and drives vehicles including a Chevrolet Avalanche, a black BMW sedan, and a green or teal colored Ford pickup.
On Nov. 10, an Oregon State Police trooper and his K9 initiated a traffic stop on Alvarado-Gonzalez on Interstate 5 near milepost 171 in Lane County. Alvarado-Gonzalez was questioned outside of the vehicle and reportedly told the trooper there was methamphetamine in the backseat of the vehicle. He also told the trooper Diaz-Alcantar had arranged the pickup with the source of supply in Los Angeles.
Oregon State Police troopers arrested two Mexican nationals accused of trafficking at least 72 pounds of drugs from Los Angeles to Eugene.
The trooper deployed his K9 to sniff around the vehicle where controlled substances were eventually located.
Alvarado-Gonzalez told law enforcement the drugs were supposed to be sold to four customers in the Eugene area.
Diaz-Alcantar allegedly admitted during an interview with law enforcement she had purchased 66 pounds of methamphetamine for $48,000, and the money was hers.
Diaz-Alcantar is scheduled to be arraigned on March 18, 2026, in Eugene. It was not immediately clear when Alvarado-Gonzalez would be arraigned.
