This weekend on Netflix, all eyes will be on Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, one of the most anticipated movies of 2026. The film marks the return of Cillian Murphy as the iconic Tommy Shelby. We understand that the Peaky Blinders movie will be a priority for many Netflix users. Afterward, we have three shows that should be next in your queue.

Our top selection is a sequel series to an iconic 1980s movie. Let’s just say one of the lead characters never showed mercy towards his opponents. The second show is a historical TV show about a slave who becomes a hero in the arena. Our final pick is a heartwarming show that just premiered its seventh season.

Virgin River

A show that feels like a warm blanket

Netflix shows usually don’t last long. In the streaming era, these shows typically run for a few seasons before ending. Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black both reached seven seasons before bowing out. Virgin River, Netflix’s longest-running current original scripted series, is set to surpass both with an eighth season in development.

Before we season 8, Virgin River released its 10-episode seventh season on March 12. For those who don’t know about this show, it’s based on Robyn Carr’s beloved novels. Alexandra Breckenridge stars as Mel Monroe, a nurse who leaves the busy streets of Los Angeles for the titular town in Northern California. Like many stories about a big-city girl embracing small-town principles, Mel has a checkered past that threatens to rear its ugly head.

Virgin River has all the hallmarks of a romantic drama—colorful characters, will-they-won’t-they courtships, and suburban values. I refer to programs like Virgin River as “warm-blanket shows” because they’re supposed to make you feel good. The drama is never too intense, the violence is kept to a minimum, and they typically feature happy endings. If you’re in the mood for an easy-to-digest show, give Virgin River a shot.

Spartacus

Blood and honor on the sands of the arena

There are two major adaptations of Spartacus. One is Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 epic film starring Kirk Douglas and Laurence Olivier. The other noteworthy adaptation, which is currently streaming on Netflix, is the television show that ran for four seasons on Starz. While both deal with the historical figure, the television show focuses more on the action and violence to depict its revenge story.

After being betrayed by a Roman officer, a Thracian warrior is sold into slavery, sent to a gladiator training school owned by Lentulus Batiatus (John Hannah), and given the name Spartacus (Andy Whitfield). To make matters worse, the warrior’s wife is sold into slavery (Erin Cummings). Left with no other choice but to fight, Spartacus trains to become a gladiator in hopes of one day winning his freedom and reuniting with his wife.

The parallels to Gladiator are obvious. However, Gladiator on television sounds like a good plan to me. Spartacus combines the action of 300 with the drama of Game of Thrones. The show also overcame a horrific tragedy when Whitfield died after the first season. Spartacus smartly pivoted to a prequel for season 2 before continuing on with a new Spartacus, played by Liam McIntyre. The show even returned in 2025 with a new story, House of Ashur. After one episode, you’ll be greeting your friends with a forearm grab.

Cobra Kai

The return of the Karate Kid

In 1984, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) hit Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) with the crane kick to win the All-Valley Championship in The Karate Kid. The movie became a sensation and spawned two direct sequels, a standalone sequel (The Next Karate Kid), and a remake. Honestly, I never thought we would hear about Daniel and Johnny ever again.

Then, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg had the genius idea to continue the franchise with an incredible twist: make Johnny the hero. The result became Cobra Kai, which picks up 30 years after the All-Valley tournament. Unfortunately for Johnny, he carried that loss with him for the rest of his life. He’s a down-and-out loser, while Daniel is a successful car salesman with a beautiful family and a lovely house. Now living in Reseda, Johnny finds his way back into karate through Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), a bullied teenager who becomes his pupil.

Nostalgia is a powerful drug and a dangerous weapon. You have to find the right balance between honoring the past and pushing the story forward. Cobra Kai had the impossible task of turning Johnny into a sympathetic character and Cobra Kai into an honorable organization. It’s a fun show that can be experienced by all ages. It turns out that Cobra Kai really never does die.
