300 tons of sand trucked into Intuit Dome to create AVP venue

AVP, the largest and longest professional volleyball league, will play matches in an NBA arena for the first time this weekend in Inglewood.
A crew picked up 16 truck charges with a tilting bucket in a career of Palm Springs, offering 300 tonnes of sand in the Intuit Dome for the AVP League matches on Friday and Saturday.
The crew built a wooden sandbox barrier to protect the ground from the arena. The sand, pre-lanched and compacted on arrival, was thrown into an 18-inch wooden setting, with elements such as the hospitality added to help eliminate the debris of the air.

“If all goes well, this is a construction from six to eight hours from start to finish with the court,” said Logan Dan, operations manager for professional tours of Beach-Volley AVP beach. “It takes about six hours to build the court specifically.”
Once the event is completed, the crew dismantles the frame and removes the sand using equipment that looks like a small modified tractor.
“We open the box and use a scouring tinkering with a broom attachment – it sweeps a lot of sand,” said Dan.
Although the Beach Volley in the dining room is unusual, the new AVP League model – introduced last year – made it possible to bring tournaments to unconventional places. The league invests in a creative way to increase accessibility and exhibition.

“What it allowed us to do is bring volleyball into different areas that it may not be,” said Dan. “For example, we are going to New York next week, and we are going to put a court to Central Park, just to Wollman Rink, where they normally have ice skating in winter and pickleball in summer.”
Beach-Volley beach conditions differ considerably between the outdoor game and the interior game. The sun, wind and heat strongly influence the performance of players and the dynamics of the players. Inside, the environment remains fresher and still, free from elements such as whipped winds or a burning sun.
“It is so close and strong and intimate that it creates this very cool environment,” said Logan.
The AVP refused to disclose what it costs to build courts in unconventional locations such as Intuit Dome.
Logan said that Fans of AVP Hope staff will benefit from a fun and family community environment that offers more seats near the action than a typical volleyball land.
