Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. of Portland, Ore., is expanding its Feb. 19 recall of non-ready-to-eat (NRTE) frozen chicken products that may be contaminated with pieces of glass, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The recall was initiated after the company received several consumer complaints about glass in the products.

The facility determined that a plant-based ingredient, specifically carrots, was the likely source of the glass contamination, which also impacted additional products subject to this expanded recall.

The company is recalling an additional 33,617,045 pounds of various ready-to-eat (RTE) and NRTE products, chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumplings, for a combined total of 36,987,575 pounds subject to recall.

This expansion includes 16 products manufactured between October 21, 2024 and February 26, 2026, under the Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei and Trader Joe’s brands.

These products have expiration dates ranging from February 28, 2026 to August 19, 2027.

Products subject to recall have the establishment number P-18356, P-18356B or P-47971 printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. Items were shipped to retail locations nationwide. Some Ajinomoto items were exported to Canada and Mexico.

There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare professional.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are asked not to consume them.
