36-year-old killed in Cathedral City shooting; suspect outstanding

A man was killed in a shooting in Cathedral City in the late morning Tuesday, Feb. 17, with police still searching for a suspect several hours later.
The Cathedral City Police Department received an emergency call at 11:17 a.m. regarding a shooting in the 30-800 block of San Gabriel Drive, a street in the Dream Homes neighborhood east of the Palm Springs International Airport.
Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics tended to the victim, described as a 36-year-old man from Cathedral City, but he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Cathedral City police detectives began an investigation and determined that the victim was confronted by unknown individuals in a black Dodge Durango.
“After being confronted, the victim exchanged words and was then shot,” the police department said in a news release. “The vehicle fled the area south on San Gabriel Circle towards San Luis Rey.”
Detectives continued to follow up on investigative leads Tuesday night, and the victim’s identity had not yet been released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
