Officials in Austin, Texas, say two teenagers are in custody and a third possible suspect is sought in at least 10 random shootings that injured four people in the city over the weekend.

AUSTIN, Texas– Two teenagers were in custody and a third possible suspect was being sought following at least 10 random weekend shootings in Austin, Texas, that left four people injured, city officials said Sunday.

Driving around the city in stolen vehicles, the suspects shot up two fire stations, apartment buildings and homes during a series of robberies and shootings between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said.

The two boys, aged 15 and 17, were apprehended after being stopped in a stolen car and attempting to flee. A third person who was in the car also ran and remained at large. Davis said it’s unclear if that person was involved in the shooting.

She said the gun used in the shooting was previously stolen by the 15-year-old and the 17-year-old was wanted in connection with another gun theft.

The city on Sunday ordered residents across much of South Texas’ capital to shelter in place while they searched for the suspects. While two suspects were in custody, the order was later lifted.

Four victims were taken to hospital, including one seriously injured, authorities said.

The suspects stole at least four vehicles as they traveled around the city, Davis said.

“We do not have a specific motive identified. In fact, these actions appear to be random,” Mayor Kirk Watson said.
