LibreOffice-based Collabora Online Just Got a Big Update

Collabora Online, the suite of online offices based on LibreOffice, has just published its major update for the year. Collabora Online now has a faster modification of documents, safety upgrades and many interface improvements, and you can still self-heber it on your own server.
You may not have heard of collaboration, but it is the company that maintains the official edition ready for the LibreOffice company. Collabora online is a modified version designed to perform in a web browser, in competition with services such as Google Docs / Sheets / Slides and Microsoft 365. It is mainly designed for businesses and other organizations to deploy on their own infrastructure, but you can also host it on your own domestic server with the Edition code or Nextcloud APP.
What’s new online 25.04
Collabora online always has a design and a provision similar to LibreOffice, but with additional features and specific browser functions at the top. This version adds the support of autotext and personalized dictionaries, so you can add text extracts to save (such as the Baillu text or standard responses) to be used later in any document.
If you work on a writer document with other people, the commentary threads now display the answers more clearly and support the marking of other people with @names. This should work more or less the same as Google Docs or Word in Microsoft 365. There is also a new side navigation bar to help you jump in the sections in a document.
There are also impressive performance improvements in this version. Collabora said in a blog post: “We have invested a lot of work in improving performance on the customer side, in the browser. […] By being smarter at the time of making documents and DOM changes by lots, to gradually free up memory, we have considerably improved performance in some cases providing performance from 11 frames per second [to] 60FPS. “”
If you work regularly with PDF files, you could appreciate the new support for the PDF 2.0 standard. It has improvements for digital signatures, transparent elements, annotations and encryption, but all PDF readers do not yet support it.
The new update also adds new spreadsheet functions to fill the gap with Excel. You can now use XLookUp and Xmatch to search and match the data, as well as dynamic table functions such as filter, sorting, sorting, unique, sequence and randarray.
There are many other changes in this version, including “more than 100 accessibility improvements”, faster font formatting and better support for high -resolution screens. Collabora online 25.04 is much closer to a series of offices based on a full browser, although it is still not intended for consumer use.
Try collaborate online
Unfortunately, Collara Online is still not so easily accessible or Google Docs or Microsoft 365. You can configure it on a domestic server, such as a NAS or Raspberry Pi, with code edition.
If you already have a NextCloud server in progress, you can install the official application to modify the documents. This gives you a much closer experience in the opening of documents in your browser from Google Drive or OneDrive, with easy file synchronization on your devices and the cloud.
