Viral Video Backlash Forces Apology From Aggressive Target Shopper – RedState

Some people have absolutely no sense of appropriate boundaries.

Look, we’ve all seen people wearing caps, t-shirts, or buttons that we didn’t agree with. I still have a moment of perplexity when I see a car (almost always a Subaru) sporting a bunch of Bernie Sanders stickers. But most of us are mature enough not to lose our minds when we see someone sporting this kind of paraphernalia. No, it always seems to be the left that gets unstuck when they see someone wearing a MAGA hat or a Charlie Kirk shirt. This is what happened recently at a Target store in California. My colleague Rusty Weiss told us this story Thursday, describing how Karen, a screaming leftist, attacked a harmless, mature lady wearing a Charlie Kirk T-shirt while working at a Target store.

An elderly Target employee in California, Jeanie Beeman, was verbally abused by a customer for wearing a Charlie Kirk “Freedom” t-shirt while on shift. The video sparked a viral backlash against aggressor. Now, Beeman’s response would almost certainly make Charlie smile.

To be clear, the customer caused the backlash here, launching a profane verbal attack on the woman wearing the t-shirt while she was restocking the shelves at her store.

The disjointed woman asks Beeman if she’s “fucking stupid” and accuses her of supporting “a racist.”

“They let you wear that shirt here?” she asks. “Why the hell would you wear that, you’re at work at Target?

Now that Karen, identified as one Michelea Ponce, has apologized.

His apology reads in full:

I want to take full responsibility for my actions and say clearly and truthfully that I was wrong. I behaved badly and I deeply regret it.

I want to apologize directly to Jeannie [sic]. I am truly sorry for approaching you at your workplace and putting you in an uncomfortable and unfair position. You didn’t deserve this and my behavior was bad.

I also apologize to Jeannie’s family for the stress and attention my actions have caused. I apologize to Target as an employer, I apologize to Enloe, and I apologize to the Chico community. I understand that what I did made me reflect poorly on myself and disrupted the sense of safety and respect that should exist in a workplace and in our community.

I didn’t handle the situation the way I should have. I let my emotions take over instead of choosing restraint and empathy. It was my failure and I recognize it.

I regret my actions and am sincerely sorry for the harm they caused. I wish I could go back and undo what happened, but I can honestly acknowledge it, learn from it, and commit to doing better in the future.

Read it all and it seems sincere. In the generous spirit of the holiday season, let’s all assume that’s the case, especially after the virtual beating this woman and her employer have received over the past 48 hours. None of us are perfect, and few, if any, people can honestly say that they haven’t done something crude and stupid at one time or another – and it was indeed crude and stupid. Moreover, his employer also released a statement:

Enloe Health CEO Mike Wiltermood released a statement and called Ponce’s behavior “abhorrent and deeply concerning to our caregivers, our organization and our community.” He did not confirm his employment status, citing privacy policies.

He would not confirm his employment status. You don’t say. It would be understandable if Enloe Health fired this obnoxious person, but it’s California, so…

I would like to think that Michelea Ponce is sincere in her apology. I’d like to think she’s sincerely contrite for her atrocious verbal attack on a harmless old lady. But I can’t read minds, any more than anyone else, and for every Michelea Ponce who realizes she did something stupid and is willing to sincerely admit her mistake, there are a hundred other rabid, nasty leftists who would launch into a similar attack without remorse or regret, and that’s for sure.

As for Charlie’s family, they already have enough to deal with.
