6 dead after truck crashes into van carrying members of Amish group in Michigan

Caro, Mich. – A van crossed a stop sign and crashed into a van, killing at least six people in a rural area in Michigan, the authorities said.
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in the canton of Gilford of the County of Tuscola, 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Detroit.
Thirteen people were in the two vehicles, including 10 in the van, said the sheriff’s office.
“Several passengers have been ejected from the van and pick-up,” said the sheriff’s office on Facebook. “Currently, there are 6 confirmed deaths and the condition of additional patients is unknown.”
The van transported members of a local Amish community, the Robert Baxter Subheriff said on Wednesday.
“They had a paid driver in the van,” he told the Associated Press. “I don’t know where they were heading or where they came from. They are residents of the county.”
Baxter said seven people had been taken to the hospital. He had no update on their conditions.
