74-year-old Bradenton man killed in crosswalk hit-and-run near Publix

A 74-year-old Bradenton man was killed Monday evening in a hit-and-run crash at a marked crosswalk near a Publix shopping center, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 6:49 p.m. at 60th Avenue West and Flamingo Boulevard, about a quarter mile west of U.S. 41.
Investigators said the man was crossing 60th Avenue West within the marked crosswalk at the entrance/exit of the Publix when he was struck by a westbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver did not stop to render aid, troopers said. After the collision, the vehicle entered the Flamingo Garden apartment complex, briefly stopped, then continued through the complex, reentered 60th Avenue West and fled westbound, troopers said.
The vehicle is believed to be a dark gray or black Toyota RAV4 or 4Runner SUV, though the investigation remains ongoing.
