German president to attend Eurobasket final against Turkey

German President Frank-Walter, Steinmeier, will attend the country’s final at Eurobasket 2025 against Turkey on Sunday in Riga.

The presidential office said on Saturday that Steinmeier would make the trip to Latvia where world champions in Germany target a second continental title 32 years after the first in 1993.

The German government will also be represented, through Christiane Schenderlein, Minister of State for Sport and Volunteer in the Chancellery.

“The whole government has crossed fingers for the German team on Sunday,” said government sources.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz had congratulated the team for X after the semi-final victory on Friday against Finland.

“Final – What a strong game. You have inspired an entire country. Good luck in the final,” said Merz.
