Is Using ChatGPT to Write Your Essay Bad for Your Brain?

Time journalist Andrew Chow discussed the results of a new study on how Chatppt affects critical thinking with Nataliya Kosymyna. Kosymyna was part of a team of researchers from the MIT media laboratory who decided to determine whether the Chatppt and the important language models (LLM) eroded critical thinking, and the study made certain results concerning the results. The study divided 54 subjects into three groups and asked them to write several tests using the OpenAi Chatppt, Google’s search engine, and nothing at all, respectively. The researchers used an EEG to record brain activity of writers. What they found is that three groups, Chatgpt users had the lowest brain commitment and constantly underperformed at neural, linguistic and behavioral levels. Over several months, chatgpt users have become more lazy with each later test, often using copy and paste.
