The Big Ten conference opener is just hours away for Iowa football, and the team has released its inactives for the matchup with Rutgers.

Heading into the game, fans knew that the Hawkeyes were going to be down a few players, like Reece Vander Zee, Jarriett Buie, Xavier Williams, and Addison Ostrenga. All of those players are listed as inactive for Iowa, along with a few surprise additions as well.

The following players are listed as inactive for the Hawkeyes against Rutgers:

  • WR Jarriett Buie
  • DB Shahid Barros
  • WR Reece Vander Zee
  • RB Brevin Doll
  • RB Xavier Williams
  • TE Addison Ostrenga

The only two big surprises for Iowa are Barros and Doll. Barros, the South Dakota transfer, was supposed to be a big part of Iowa's secondary, but has been primarily a backup all season long. His absence leaves the Hawkeyes a little thin on the back end. Doll was active last week, but has been fighting an injury all offseason, so it's not shocking to see him inactive.

The best news for Iowa is the absence of running back Kamari Moulton on this list. Moulton was listed as the Hawkeyes' starting running back for their Week 1 game, but got injured on the first drive of the season and has been out ever since. It's good to see Moulton back in the lineup, especially with Williams not able to go.

The Scarlet Knights are dealing with a litany of injuries, as 15 players for Rutgers are inactive tonight. Another three, including star wide receiver Ian Strong and running back Samuel Brown V, are listed as questionable. Fans will know more about those injuries when the kicks off.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST and can be seen on Fox.
