Fort Walton Beach, Florida – The North American Command has collaborated with dozens of companies to test various counter -ground systems to protect certain national security sites against drone incursions.
USNORTHCOM demonstrated its unmistakable air system platform (C-SUAS) during the “FALCON PEAK 25.2” event at the base of the Air Force EGLIN in Florida. For the demonstration, Crews launched a “hostile” drone from the island of Santa Rosa before a interceptor drone captures it with a net taken from a shotgun.
Twenty anti-line systems were tested in the days preceding the event. Falcon Peak gives companies the opportunity to test their anti-line systems in a realistic environment.
Squarehead Technology has developed an acoustic system that detects drones by their sound and identifies their location.

“You see a lot of drones flying close to the ground, in the size of the soil, which makes it difficult for radars to recover them. Acoustics do not have this problem,” said Knut Moe, vice-president of defense of Square technology technology.
Once the acoustic system identifies the location of a drone, the troops can bring it down themselves or use mitigation systems such as the interceptor drone with a collateral effect with a low-effect of Fortem Techlatment.
“”[The drone] Sorts and grabs it with a net and makes it fall safely and puts it everywhere you need it, “said Jon Gruen, CEO of Fotem Technologies.
However, the Gruen C-SUAS platform can detect, follow and mitigate drones in itself. In some cases, Fortem Technologies interceptor drones use explosives to eliminate hostile drones.

In 2024, a swarm of more than a dozen drones was able to fly over a military base in Virginia for 17 consecutive nights. At the time, the legislators accused the Pentagon of lacking counter-meal procedures.

Usnorthcom estimates that around 8,000 drones are in American airspace at any time. In 2024, at least 350 incursions of drones were reported in more than 100 American military facilities.
“”Not all drones are harmful. Some of them are just people. They do not know that they are not supposed to be there, “said Jason Mayes, Director of Operations for the C-Suas Usnorthcom division,”

Mayes said drones can easily be changed to become surveillance or smuggling tools. Some countries have used drones as guided explosive devices in war areas.
General Gregory Guillot of the US Air Force is USNORTHCOM commander. He said he was convinced that the soldiers could stop a surprise drone attack. However, he hopes that more anti-drone technologies could protect military sites in the event of sustained attack.

General Guilott’s objective is to have counter-Drône intervention teams on the East Coast, the West Coast and Alaska which can respond to any Drone foray into the country within 24 hours.

USNORTHCOM expects the number of drone incursions to national security facilities to increase in the future as amateur drones become more common. About 1 million drones are recorded with the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA expects this number to reach around 2.7 million by 2027.
