Apple iPhone 17 Review: Close to Perfect

The screen is slightly larger now, 6.3 inches, but more impressive is the brightness of the display, which can reach a peak of 3,000 nits. Even the sunny days here in New York, I had no trouble seeing the contents of the screen. It may also be thanks to the new anti-reflective coating to help cut the reflections. And the new Apple 2 ceramic shield, supposedly three times more resistant to scratches than before, protects the screen. The glass is always made of glass – I already have a small scratch on my display. Use a box and a screen protector!

I was very impressed by the battery life. After a week of use, I regularly hit more than six hours of screen time, and some of these days involved using GPS navigation, music streaming and takeoff hours on Instagram rolls. I have not yet found worried that my phone dies. It easily resumes the lifespan of the iPhone Air battery and gets closer to the iPhone 17 Pro, but if you want the best absolute duration, look at the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

If you come from an older phone than the iPhone 15 (I hope you are!), Remember that the iPhone now has a USB-C port. This means that all the Lightning accessories you have required an adapter, but that’s the right time to change everything to USB-C. The only boring bit is that Apple limits the data transfer speeds to the same 480 Mbps, while the iPhone 17 Pro benefits from USB 3 speeds up to 10 Gbit / s. You probably transfer most of your data between wireless devices, so it’s not something that has an impact on most people. But the other phones in this price range support faster speeds, so it is a silly limitation.

The A19 chip fueling the whole phone is an excellent artist. Seriously, for the vast majority of applications and games, this processor kills. People who regularly download the most demanding mobile games, as Assassin’s Creed Miragewill find him a little limiting. I launched the graphics to the maximum, and the game stammered frequently and even frozen several times. Without forgetting that the iPhone 17 has become really hot and almost uncomfortable to hold. This is because it does not have the cooling system of the steam chamber of pro models. Most games will be good –Survivor of monsters Ran without hitch – but heavy mobile players may want the A19 Pro chip found in the iPhone 17 Pro.
