Football star Elyjah Staples embraces his ‘family’ at Marquez High

It is a tradition for the Marquez High football team to raise black gladiators to report the stadium post after each victory.
Imagine how often this flag could be raised each time that Elyjah Staples, the school outside the school, won an A on his bulletin? This is the only note he has obtained in three years of lessons, regardless of chemistry, algebra 2 or the history of the United States.
He seems to be in a personal competition to continue to obtain A with bags at Huntington Park school.
“It is unique,” said coach Rudy Fortiz. “Just his leadership.” Hey, you hurt. “Everyone follows.
Last season, in the second year in his first year by playing football in high school, Staples had 13 bags. He also played volleyball, basketball and ran the track. Now he has 6 feet 3 inches and 205 pounds, only 16 years old, has a Stanford football scholarship offer and wants to be the major promotion of his school in 2027. The older brother Ezavier Staples plays the receiver of the UCLA.
He is about to become as synonymous with Marquez as the former outdoor Basketball Mitchell Butler competition was for having attended Tiny Oakwood in North Hollywood before going to the UCLA and the NBA.
Wherever 16 -year -old staples walk on campus, he is recognized. He likes to welcome foreigners and friends. It is perfectly logical as the first year that he decided to take a year off by playing football and joined the Cheer team. This is part of his outgoing personality. Then he changed his heart when the football team struggled.
“I saw everyone there and I said to myself:” I have to come back to this excitement. And they lost. [thinking,] “I have to go out to do something”, said Staples.
Last week against the Puente, he caught four Touché passes and made 10 plated with two bags. He has five bags on the season and leads the team with 15 receptions for 517 yards and 10 affected.
It is perfectly comfortable and confident to stay with Marquez (4-1) and play in the city section despite its growing recognition as the future university athlete.
“Reason No. 1 is the community,” he said. “I am really tall about how I am treated. I think I am very liked on campus. I love academics. Teachers are flexible. “
Its academic success is a family tradition and requirement. “I admired my brothers and they continued to have good grades and my mother is strict,” he said. “She said to my coaches:” If her notes are not up there, her sporting stuff is cut. “”
Staples plays in so many sports in Marquez that fans can see him play all year round.
“I hear a lot of” staples “of the stands,” he said. “I always play sports. Whenever they see me, they are staples, staples, staples. ”
It looks like a future opportunity zero sponsored by Staples, the office supplies company.
Marquez faces a difficult challenge by Eagle Rock, a pass team on Friday evening. The quarter-back Liam Pasten is known to use his athletics to create opportunities, so it will be fun to see how he takes care of Staples trying to chase him.
Staples certainly indicates that football has become its sport of choice.
“It is excitement and be there with my teammates and be like a family. It’s my family now, ”he said.
