Canada bank employee charged with accessing PM Mark Carney’s account

A 23 -year -old bank employee was charged for allegedly reached the account of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, police said.
Ibrahim El-Hakim, an employee of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in Ottawa, was accused of fraud, unauthorized use of a computer, an identity flight and traffic identity information, the police announced.
In a press release, RBC said that it “identified independently unauthorized access to the system” and had “worked closely with the police to support their investigation”.
Mr. El-Hakim no longer works at the bank, added RBC.
El-Hakim was arrested on July 10, the police mounted in Royal Canada said for having pretended to use the Sivices de RBC to “criminal purposes”, in particular access to several bank profiles without authorization. He has since been released under certain conditions.
Police said there was no threat to Carney’s security or national security.
According to a judicial affidavit, reported on the Canadian newspaper of the French language La Presse, the alleged actions of Mr. El-Hakim are linked to organized crime.
The Affidavit, which was not checked independently by the BBC, said that Mr. El-Hakim was in contact with a telegram person who had paid money to create false banking profiles and obtain credit lines, reported the press.
He added that Mr. El-Hakim would also have reached former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on June 17.
According to the affidavit reported by the press, Mr. El-Hakim was hired in RBC in 2022 and worked in a branch near Parliament in Ottawa.
He was allegedly filmed and admitted in an interview with the internal security of RBC, said the Affidavit.
Mr. El-Hakim told them that he had been attracted to a person on Telegram, who, according to the police, is linked to organized crime. This person paid him a total of $ 5,000 CA ($ 3,600; £ 2,675) to access certain banking profiles and obtain credit lines, the affidavit said.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on October 1 in Ottawa, the RCMP said.
