Republican congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska will not seek re-election | Nebraska
The member of the Republican Congress and the Critic of Vocal Donald Trump, Don Bacon, would not have been re-elected in mid-term races in 2026.
The conservative politician represents a swing district in Nebraska which includes Omaha, and the word of his plans prompted the democratic characters to signal the optimism according to which they could take place while the party tries to find a majority of the house which he has not had since 2023.
Bacon’s decision was reported for the first time on Friday by Punchbowl News and Notus points of sale before being confirmed on Saturday by the Washington Post. Notus and the post have cited anonymous sources familiar with the situation, the first of those who added that Bacon would make an official announcement in the coming days.
Although Bacon did not immediately comment on the reports, his account checked on social networks has engaged with several messages expressing “a good storage room”. He called the author of such a post “an idiot” and said to another who said he was a barely veiled democrat that he was “the real republican”, having supported the party since he was 13 years old in 1976.
The second district of the Nebraska Congress that Bacon is voted for Kamala Harris when she lost to Trump during the November house race in November. He also voted for Joe Biden when he took Trump’s oval office four years earlier. And in May, Omaha elected his very first black mayor: John Ewing Jr, who beat Jean Stothert Republican with three terms.
Bacon’s policy has come to reflect these realities of his district to some extent. Although the president has chosen to keep Hegseth in place despite the so-called signalgate scandal, Bacon told post in an interview he “would have been dismissed” at any time in his military career for doing what Hegseth did.
In addition, in an opinion column, Bacon criticized the brutal employment and the discounts of expenditure that the Trump administration has inflicted on the federal government since the post of president of the president in January. A statement distributed by the spokesperson for the campaign committee of the Democrat Congress, Madison Andrus, said on Friday that the re-election of Bacon had marked a “vote of confidence for the Republicans of the Chamber and their electoral prospects”.
“The writing has been on the wall for months,” also said Andrus’ declaration.
In a separate declaration, the president of the Nebraska Democratic Party Jane Kleeb said that the potential candidates of her party “really represent the district values”.
“We are ready for change,” said Kleeb.
