The candidate for the post of governor of New Jersey Gop, Jack Ciattarelli, called his opponent, the American representative Mikie Sherrill, DN.J., during a town hall on Saturday, calling it as a gap with the Garden State on immigration, the police, the taxes and the ethics.

“She wants you to believe that she is a jersey girl. She is not. She wants you to believe that she is centrist. She is not,” Ciattarelli told voters.

The remarks preview the closing argument of Ciattarelli in a tight race for the first post of the State, while he seeks to define Sherrill by attaching him to national democrats and to the controversies concerning the application of immigration, the police and the left allies. The two campaigns were invited to comments.

Ciattarelli accused that Sherrill “supported Joe Biden’s open border policies” and “voted not on the Laken Riley Act”. Sherrill missed the Riley Act vote earlier this year, but later said that she would have voted no, arguing that the measure was too wide.

He also accused her of supporting policies on transgender athletes, saying that “this mother of two daughters voted twice to allow organic boys to play in the sports of girls”. Sherrill in fact voted against Gop Bills in 2023 and 2025 which would have prohibited transgender students from competing with the basis of gender identity.

On the application and the immigration police services, Cattarelli said that Sherrill “supports sanctuary cities” and “voting anti-political … seeking to get rid of qualified immunity”. Sherrill spoke favorably about the “directive” of the confidence of immigrants from New Jersey and supported the George Floyd Justice in Policing law, which sought to reduce the qualified unions of the police and politics.

He also attacked the opposition of the Congress to the “Big Beau Bill Act” of the GOP in 2025, which increased the ceiling for the deduction of salt to $ 40,000, extended children’s credits and eliminated federal taxes on overtime and advice. Sherrill and all the Democrats in the Chamber voted not on the package.

Ethics appeared prominently in the criticism of Ciattarelli. He reminded voters that Sherrill had paid a fine under the law on actions after having disclosed late actions transactions and noted that his household had negotiated actions in defense companies when she was seated in the Chamber’s armed services committee, although she sold individual assets in 2019.

He also covered recent reports according to which Sherrill was disciplined in the cheating scandal of the 1994 Naval Academy for not having pointed out his classmates, which prevented him from walking graduation even if she was ordered.

Beyond political contrasts, Ciattarelli sought to throw Sherrill as aligned on the left.

The report shows that she praised the support of Zohran Mamdani, the socialist candidate for the mayor of New York, saying that she shared the objective of his voters to “throw the old game book”. The Republicans have expanded the “disqualifying” embrace and warned the New Jerseyans could not afford such a policy.

He also underlined his remarks after the room voted to honor the conservative activist Charlie Kirk after his assassination. Sherrill said Kirk “pleaded for a Christian nationalist government and to cancel the rights of women and blacks”, while adding that the Constitution protects freedom of expression “even for those to whom I vehemently oppose”. Sherrill voted for resolution.

Throughout his remarks, Ciattarelli framed Sherrill as left despite his Caucus assessment with moderates. Sherrill formerly belonged to the Centrist Blue Dog Coalition and is now a member of the New Democrat Coalition.

Ciattarelli, on the other hand, leaned over his local roots, calling himself the “jersey guy” and stressing that his family lived and managed companies in the state for a century. “How about electing the jersey guy? Ciattarellis has been here for a hundred years … will still be,” he said.

Sherrill, naval helicopter pilot and from Virginia, was elected for the first time in 2018 and lives in Montclair with his family since 2010.

Citatarelli, CPA and former assembly, was the GOP candidate for the governor in 2021. The polls suggest that their revenge match in 2025 is near.

Ciattarelli’s attacks present its strategy to portray Sherrill as linked to national democrats and have compromised ethically while presenting themselves as a local alternative.

Fox News Digital contacted the two campaigns to comment on Ciattarelli’s remarks and Sherrill’s past statements.
