EXCLUSIVE: Parents Group Sounds Alarm On ‘Companion’ Apps Driving Kids To Suicide, Damaging Development

A parental rights group is expressed to families in the dangers of artificial intelligence platforms (AI) for children, pointing to suicide and reduced performance in school.
As the use of AI among young people within the reach of levels, American Parents Coalition (APC) published a warning to parents on Monday which allowed the “harmful content” which can be accessible by the AI by children without knowledge or parental consent. In The Lookout, shared for the first time with the Daily Caller News Foundation, APC underlined recent examples of parents saying that AI has led their children to commit suicide.
Several parents whose children committed suicide following conversations with AI chatbots recently testified before the congress to warn the dangers.
“What started as an aid to homework gradually turned into a confidant, then suicide coach,” said a father who lost his 16 -year -old son in Congress, according to ABC News. “In a few months, Chatgpt became the closest companion to Adam. Always available. Always validate and insist on the fact that he knew Adam better than anyone, including his own brother. “
The parents of the 16 -year -old child said that the chatbot had encouraged their son to write a suicide note and told him not to confide in his family about his suicidal thoughts, NPR reported. Parents continued the technological company in August for the event.
Other AI companies have faced similar allegations. The parents of a 14 -year -old young person continued characters’ technologies alleging their son’s relationship with the chatbot led him to isolate himself from reality and that he was “exploited and sexually treated by chatbots”. The AI bot would have encouraged the boy to commit suicide, the parents said in the trial.

Studies have shown that the use of AI is developing in young people, 72% having used an AI companion and 52% of reports being regular users, according to Common Sense Media. These statistics fear that children can use technology in place of normal human interaction, harming the socialization of children.
Beyond coaching and socialization problems, APC warns against other development threats. A study of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) revealed that an excessive use of AI could harm the skills of critical thinking of children. Dependence on technology to write articles, for example, can reduce brain engagement and cognitive performance while increasing laziness, said the APC.
A recent Harvard study also suggests that although AI can help productivity, it can make people less motivated and more likely to feel bored when the tasks without the help of AI. (Related: our dystopian suzerain has just created something that scientists say is “too dangerous to release”)
“While the technology of artificial intelligence becomes more accessible, parents must acquire an understanding of AI and the advantages and potential risks it involves for children,” said ALCELIGHT Marré, executive director of the APC, to the DCNF. “Unslated AI has the potential to reduce the critical thinking, understanding and creativity of a child if a child does not receive the fundamental tools and skills of their education. AI platforms also have limited protections for children, which could allow children to access ripe or even deadly content without parents.
With an AI taking over the Trump traction and administration that works to empower industry, many now note the need to regulate practice and protect children from the disadvantages of technology. A bipartite group of senators in August wrote to Mark Zuckerberg de Meta urging for reforms that protect children from inappropriate content.
It has been revealed that IA chatbots have had highly sexual conversations with children, and even with parental controls, children can often encourage systems to share explicit content, found APC. Chatgpt recently announced new parental checks that allow parents to link accounts with their children, limit graphic and sexual content, set hours of breakdown and receive alerts if their children mention self -harm.
The Chinese AI Platform of the Communist Party (CCP) Deepseek AI has also become very popular among young people, and is known to disseminate propaganda from the CCP and manifestly false information, warned APC.
The APC encourages parents to limit their children’s access to AI platforms, to avoid publicly publishing images of their children who could be used to create inappropriate content generated by AI and defend the limits of AI in schools.
