Freshman QB Evan McCalister is Valencia’s ‘secret weapon’

Almost every summer, Valencia High Larry Muir’s Valence football coach tries to make it a mystery as to which of his new arrivals projects himself as the best player. He likes to stay secret until the summer competition is over.

Well, Valencia is heading for her two-week dead period next week, so Muir could not hide her pleasure in watching the first year quarter Evan McCalister, a long pass during the final game on Saturday in the Pass de Pass de Sim Valley tournament. The ball was captured in the goal area for a dramatic touch of the second year student Michael Wilder while the Valencia players rugged with pleasure with a victory over Sierra Canyon to finish an afternoon 5-1.

The 2 -year -old McCecalister, 14, has obtained a playing time behind Brady Bretthauer since his college diploma. There is no doubt that he has his arm and mental makeup to become Muir’s last summer feeling, joining Steven Manfro and Brian Bonner, who were both young unknown players before using summer to take off in the position of ball carrier.

McCalister has moved from Texas and is the younger brother of the defensive back of the Tanner McCalister Broncos.

“It is very talented,” said Muir. “He sees the field very well. He plays beyond his years.”
