Why This Shutdown May Be Different

Democrats continue to use their lever effect in the federal funding process to face the Republicans. Meanwhile, the threat of dismissals is looming for many government employees. Panelists on Washington week with the Atlantic Joined last night to discuss the duration of the government’s closure.
This closure is not necessarily something that Donald Trump has chosen, “but he likes a fight”, Ashley Parker, editor The Atlanticsaid last night. “He thinks – with a glimpse, happily – that it politically benefits him and the Republicans.” This, however, “remains to be seen,” said Parker.
The president also uses closure as an “opportunity to deconstruction of the administrative state”, continued Parker. But, she added: “There is a certain understanding in her orbit that there could be a flame if they really did.”
