The authorities of South Carolina investigate a possible criminal fire attack on the house of a state judge on Saturday, which left the mansion by the water to a million dollars burned on the ground, according to authorities and local reports.

While the authorities did not immediately publish the owners’ names, the post and mail identified them as the court judge Diane Schafer Goodstein, 69, and her husband, Arnold Goodstein, 81, former member of the two chambers of the State legislature.

Arnold Goodstein was injured after jumping out of a window against the backyard to escape the flames, post and mail reported. The judge was walking their dogs at the time.

Three people were reportedly injured in the fire. The couple have two adult children.

The authorities published a photo showing the house by the sea eclipsed by flames and clouds of black smoke.

A spokesperson for the State Division of the State forces, which would investigate the criminal fire as a potential cause of the fire, did not immediately answer the questions sent by e-mail.
