FDA suspends outbreak reporting because of government shutdown

Some of the activities of the Food and Drug Administration will be disrupted by the closure of the government which began on October 1, despite the previous promise of the Commissioner that it would be as usual to the agency.

The weekly updates of epidemics will cease the future until government operations are restarted. The closure is due to a lack of financing legislation. The Senate did not approve a financing bill on September 30, the last day of the government’s exercise.

In recent days, the FDA commissioner Marty Makary said that the agency would continue business as usual if the government stopped operations because its functions were part of the public security work.

In its latest weekly epidemic report, the FDA made the following announcement:

“Due to the absence of credits for the 2026 fiscal year or a continuous resolution, only certain government activities will continue. Although the FDA will continue to carry out surveillance and response activities to the food epidemic, the basic table of the survey will not be updated each week during this period.

The agency did not say specifically if it will continue to publish recall opinions. The link in the FDA declaration was not functional on October 1.
