CA County Imposes COVID Mask Mandate Just Days After Newsom Signed ‘No Masks for ICE’ Law – RedState
California has long been known for its counterculture, its madness, its “otherness”. But in recent decades, that reputation has become sinister; it’s no longer about the Beach Boys, surf culture, “Beverly Hills Cop” or even the Eagles. Over the last 15 years or so, it has been more about hard left politics, societal decline, socialism, and during the COVID years, even totalitarianism as the Golden State’s power structure has adopted the most liberty-depriving measures of virtually any state.
Now, unsurprisingly, the state’s brain appears to be in some sort of schizophrenic blender, because just as Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill banning law enforcement from wearing masks, one wine country county is demanding that you put on your N95 again.
A county in California’s wine country is strengthening its vaccine recommendations and instituting a mask mandate, citing a “higher risk” of contracting COVID-19 at the start of the annual flu season.
Dr. Karen Smith, interim health officer for the Sonoma County Department of Public Health, issued an order Monday requiring anyone entering certain health care facilities in the county to wear a mask. Facilities subject to the order include skilled nursing facilities, portions of long-term care facilities where nursing care is provided, acute and non-acute rehabilitation facilities, infusion centers and dialysis centers, according to the order.
You can almost feel the slow mission creeping into your bones. Let’s take a look at some more of their plans (emphasis mine):
The mask mandate will apply from November 1 to March 31, 2026, and the order states that Smith can expand the type of installations subject to it according to needs. [We’ve seen this game before in California.] Additionally, the requirement will be implemented annually, unless otherwise canceled.
“Annually, unless otherwise canceled. ” Oh really? Don’t you get the impression that this was part of the plan all along – and that they will try to extend the requirements as long as possible whenever they see an opportunity? Masks are synonymous with virtue, don’t you see.

The obvious question now, however, after Sonoma County’s new regulations, is: Why wouldn’t a resourceful officer say he was concerned about COVID and needed to mask up? Make him remove it, and the trials could be endless.

The anti-scientific, chaotic, and ridiculous response to the virus over the years has illustrated everything that is wrong with state leadership and, frankly, progressive leadership nationwide regarding COVID.
