Glenn McConnell: Cambridge boss Neil Harris open-minded over loan move for striker

Harris added that McConnell might have “earned the right” to be included in the squad for Saturday’s League Two match against struggling Shrewsbury Town.
“We have a lot of games in the next few weeks, there’s a lot of football for Glenn to play,” Harris said.
Harris hopes that with a number of Under-21s and other warm-up matches, alongside Championship and Vertu Trophy matches coming up over the coming weeks, the club will be in a better position to make a decision on McConnell’s next step.
“If we get through this period, and hopefully it will affect the first team, I think we’ll really be able to assess where Glenn is at,” Harris said.
“If he went the route of Under-21 football, he played seven, eight, nine games at the start of November, which will be really good for a man who hasn’t played much in the last three years.
“By then we will be much more confident of putting him near our first team on a regular basis or letting him go out for a month and play National League football.
“So we’re really open-minded, but we’re doing the right thing from Glenn. If we had any doubt, we saw the rewards on Tuesday with a brilliant performance and a great goal.”
