Victory over Chávez makes Jake Paul feel like real boxer

It took Julio César Chávez Jr. Three laps to throw a specific punch, three others to show that he was awake and three others to remember that he could fight. The effort of the Mexican boxer was not sufficient and he lost by a unanimous decision to Jake Paul, who showed many defensive gaps including Chávez – a former average weight champion – did not benefit.
While Chávez reacted slowly to his opponent, Paul (12-1, 7 KB) marked points, forcing the son of Mexican legend Julio César Chávez to row against the current in the final towers of the fight. Julio César Chávez Jr. seemed to be disconnected in the first laps and spent time complaining about the referee of the alleged heads and ill -intentioned punches of his opponent.
“I reacted too late,” said Chávez (54-7-1, 34 KB) after Saturday night’s fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, where his frustrated father was among the fans. Julio César Chávez frequently got up his seat and shouted instructions to his eldest son.
“He is a strong fighter and after the first three or four laps, he tired, so I think he is not ready for the league fighting, but he is a good fighter,” said Julio César Chávez Jr. about Paul – a YouTube star became boxer – after defeat.
Despite his bad departure and bad start, Chávez was not hué. Paul won this from the first moment, the cameras captured his walk towards the ring before the start of the fight.
The decibels broke out when Paul appeared with the colors of the Mexican flag on his dress as he headed for the ring to the rhythm of the “dance like a cholo” of kilo.
“This is one of the songs I dance when I was a child,” said Paul at a press conference after the fight.
Paul did it, he said, in honor of the Mexican legend Julio César Chávez.
“It was an ode to his father,” said Paul. “I wore the same outfit as his father every time I was heading for the fights. It is a respect for his father. But also, when I got into the ring, I said:” I’m going to be your dad tonight. “”

After talking with journalists, Paul improvised a confrontation when he crossed Gilberto Ramirez, the co-event of the evening. Ramirez is the assn World Boxing. (WBA) and World Boxing Boxing (WBO) Cruiserweight after defending his belts against Yuniel Dorticos de Cuba.
Ramirez is not exactly a fighter known for having created an intense pre-combat atmosphere, but he presents another opportunity for Paul to cement himself as a legitimate boxer. Paul said that he had struggled to plan fighting after his unconventional passage from the Youtube cascades to sanctioned boxing.
“I always want to do it. I am used to these guys are not good promoters and ultimately, I will fight these guys,” said Paul. “Today, I have the impression that it was the first day of my boxing career, I warm up and it is the second chapter from here.”
Paul has always been criticized not to face qualified boxers. Chávez was only the third boxer that Paul has faced in his 13 fights since his beginnings in January 2020. In 2024, the 58 -year -old legend Mike Tyson was the second fighter he faced.
Paul’s only defeat came to the hands of Tommy Fury in February 2023.
“I don’t think I was a fighter at the time, I was barely two and a half years old in sport,” said Paul, thinking about his departure in sport and the loss against Fury. “I didn’t really know what I was doing. I did not have the right equipment around me, the right packaging. My lifestyle outside the ring was always like that of a youtuber, a famous actor or all that he was at that time. I was not completely focused on boxing.
“… The first chapter is finished today and now I go to Chapter two. … People still hold the Tommy Fury fight against me, but now I beat a former world champion and I have just collected this defeat against Tommy.”

In the co-functionality, Ramirez (48-1, 30 KB) defended his Cruiserweight titles against the compulsory challenger Dorticos (27-3, 25 KB). Ramirez won by unanimous decision after the dashboards of the judges read 115-112, 115-112, 117-110.
“I think it was a good performance, he can hit. I don’t know why it was so close to the scores, but that’s what it is,” said Ramírez.
He is impatient to lock a unification fight against the champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Jai Opetaia.
“We are going to unify the titles,” said Ramirez. “I just had to follow my plan, listen to my corner and do the work, that’s all.”
Although Ramirez has entered the fight as a favorite to defend his belts, the Mexican was slow, allowing scores to be closer than expected. Dormicos was decisive in the first laps, but over time, Ramirez invented. Dormicos lost a point after the referee penalized it for connecting consecutive weak blows.
Returning to professional boxing after an absence of 12 years, the former UFC champion and Ring Holly Holm veteran (34-2-3, 9 KB) faced the Mexican Yolanda Vega Ochoa undefeated (10-1, 1 KB) in a 10-round fight. Holm dominated from the start, fixing the pace with his blow, controlling his opponent’s attack and using precise combinations. Vega chose to press, but landed strictly clean and could not connect significant combinations that would turn the wave of combat.
Holm won by unanimous decision, the three judges marking the fight 100-90. His performance was resounding because of his tactical control, his mobility and his ability to neutralize the Vega offensive, which could not break its strategy or avoid cleaner punches.
“I love kicking so kicking that I liked MMA for a while, but I started to feel increasing pain by wanting to box again, so it was fun to come back and advance these boxing arms,” said Holm. “I only competed twice in wrestling shoes, I was barefoot all camp, I was looking for my protector of the groin the day I flew, it was in the garbage dumpsters in my garage. I always train with the same team, with the same coaches, I did the whole camp. I was not scattered in a ring in I don’t know how long, so it feels good. ”
With an excellent combination and a powerful Uppercut, the Mexican Raúl Curiel (16-0-1, 14 KB) overturned Uruguayan Victor Rodríguez (16-1-1, 9 KO) in the fourth round and although the Uruguayan managed to get up, he did not have the power to stop a Curiel stop. The referee stopped the fight at 2:09 am during the fourth round.
The fight determined the compulsory challenger for the World Boxing Assn. (WBA) Welter weight title.
“He was a title eliminator, so I pushed myself,” said Curiel, a tampico, Tamaulipas, from. “I knew it would end with Ko. I didn’t know what a tour, but the knockout. I was strong. “
Rodríguez finished the fight in poor condition, the injured nose and a swollen and bleeding eye.
Now Curiel wants to fight Rolando Romero, the Welter WBA weight champion who recently defeated Ryan Garcia by unanimous decision in May.
“With anyone, whatever the champion available,” said Curiel. “Fight Rolly. We fight all the champions. ”
The weight of Welter Julian Rodríguez (24-1, 15 ko) won a dramatic victory over Avious Griffin (17-1, 16 Ko), who lost his recorded record and sometimes seemed to have control of the fight. With five seconds to play in the 10th round, Rodríguez overthrew Griffin in such a way that he almost brought him out of the ring.
The fight was mainly equal uniformly and two of the judges had the fight as a draw, while the third gave Rodríguez the victory of two points.
“All the sacrifice, all the pain to reach this point,” said Rodriguez, who was clearly exhausted, in the ring. “It was a pure emotion. Now, I will be back in the gymnasium in the next two or three weeks. ”
In a light fight, Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 Kos) wasted no time and in just 78 seconds from the first round withdrew the veteran Tevin Farmer (33-9-1, 8 KB). Schofield overturned the farmer twice and the referee stopped the fight at 1:18.
In February, Schofield competed in the Champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Shakur Stevenson in Saudi Arabia, but he could not do it because he was hospitalized twice before this fight. Schofield did not explain the reasons for his hospitalization.
“I have the impression that a weight was removed from my shoulders,” said Schofield after Saturday’s victory against Farmer. “They had doubted me since what happened in February, and many people did not think I would win this fight. It’s just a lot of excitement. ”
