The inadequate contribution of five protective food factors – fruits, vegetables not congratulations, nuts, seeds, whole grains and yogurt – was responsible for just over 39% of new cases.

Colombia, Mexico and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean also had a high number of new cases, which, according to the researchers, could be due to a dependence on sugary drinks and transformed meat, as well as low consumption of whole grains.

“Our modeling approach does not prove causality and our results must be considered as risk estimates,” wrote the authors.
