LOOK: Lions’ Brian Branch instigates fight with Chiefs players at the end of ‘Sunday Night Football’


Although the game didn’t feature much drama, there were plenty of fireworks immediately following the Chiefs game. 30-17 victory against the Lions on Sunday evening.
As the game drew to a close, Patrick Mahomes attempted to shake Brian Branch’s hand, which blasted the Chiefs quarterback. Branch’s actions angered Chiefs JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was punched in the face by Branch when he confronted Lions defensive back.
This sparked a fight between the two teams.
“I love Brian Branch, but what he did is inexcusable and it will not be accepted here,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said from the podium after the game. “That’s not what we do. That’s not our goal. I apologize to the coach. [Andy] Reid and the Chiefs.”
Reid said there was “quite a bit of damage” to Smith-Schuster’s nose, but no further details were provided. “You guys saw it. The guy came and hit Juju for no reason.”
Mahomes didn’t hesitate when asked what happened immediately after the game.
“We play the game between the whistles,” Mahomes told NBC Sports. “They can do all the extracurricular activities between the whistles. I think we played a good game today. And we’ll continue that momentum.”
Rest assured, there will be repercussions for Sunday night’s fight, especially for Branch, who, according to the NBC Sports broadcast, has already been fined three times this year after receiving seven fines from the league in 2024.
As for the matchup, the Chiefs definitely took the fight to the Lions 4-2, who saw their four-game winning streak end in Kansas City.
Sunday night was a particularly important night for Mahomes, who became the Fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 300 career touchdown passes including the playoffs. Mahomes threw three touchdown passes as the Chiefs improved to 3-3 on the season.
