Mike Johnson Needs Few Words to Blow Up Latest Democrat Lie About Schumer Shutdown – RedState
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) needed just a few words to explode the latest Democratic lie about Schumer’s shutdown after Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) attacked him for not swearing her in while the government was shut down.
During Johnson’s Wednesday appearance on Fox News, the host asked the speaker about Grijalva’s accusations that Republicans wouldn’t swear her in because they feared she was the 218th signer of a Jeffrey Epstein petition to release the files, and that if she were a Republican, Johnson would have sworn her in amid the shutdown. Grijalva won a special election in September.

“I say ‘bless his heart,'” Johnson said, using a Southern term that is anything but complimentary, as anyone who is an avid reader of RedState knows. “She’s an elected representative; she doesn’t know how things work here. We’re going to swear her in as soon as we come back to the regular session. As soon as [Sen.] Chuck Schumer (Democrat of New York) and Democrats vote to reopen the government. »
“We have a lot to do here. They are the ones who are holding up,” he added. “What Rep. Grijalva doesn’t understand is that there is a certain tradition and a certain process that we engage in here to administer the oath of office.”
Pressed by the host about Grijalva’s accusation, saying it was unprecedented to not take the oath of office, Johnson reminded everyone that something similar happened in 2020, when the Speaker of the House was then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and no one cried a single tear.
“My colleague Julia Letlow of Louisiana was elected in a special election under very unique circumstances, and Nancy Pelosi, who was speaker at the time, took 25 days to have Julia Letlow sworn in. Nobody threw a fit. Nobody engaged in a publicity stunt because Nancy Pelosi was doing this on the legislative calendar.”
“I do the same thing,” he added. “This has nothing to do with Epstein. It’s absurd. It’s a moot point. The House Oversight Committee is digging into the Epstein file and releasing the documents almost in real time. 34,000 documents so far. You have some of the biggest bulldogs in Congress, Republicans and Democrats, who are involved on this. And this work continues 24 hours a day, even when Congress is closed, the government is closed because of Chuck Schumer. antics.”

Johnson’s comments about a publicity stunt refer to what Grijalva and other Democrats did Tuesday night when they tried to storm Johnson’s office and clown themselves, as my RedState colleague Bonchie reported.

Democrats attempted to storm House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office Tuesday night, with one representative attacking a police officer who intervened to arrest them. The members, most of them women, marched through the halls of the Capitol, holding signs reading “take the oath” while chanting the same phrase. That’s a reference to Adelita Grijalva, who recently won a special election in Arizona.
Johnson understandably refused to move forward with Grijalva as long as Democrats continue to keep the government shut down. On this front, an eighth attempt to pass a Republican-backed continuing resolution failed in the Senate hours earlier. Yet the Democrats rounded up the cameras (because it was nothing more than a lame photo op) and tried to force their way into Johnson’s office anyway, apparently not seeing the irony in their request.
It’s funny how upset Democrats get when Republicans treat them the exact same way Democrats treated the Republican Party when they were in power. What goes around comes around.
