Democratic Representative Says He’s Returning His AIPAC Donations

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder accused Abbott of ‘sucking'[ing] to Donald Trump,” declaring, “We do not need an unnecessary show of force at the expense of taxpayers during a peaceful protest. » Texas House Minority Leader Gene Wu said Abbott’s plan to send “armed soldiers to suppress peaceful protests is what kings and dictators do.”
In response – and in stark contrast – to the governor’s announcement, Sophia Mirto, one of the organizers of No Kings, told a local media: “We hope all other law enforcement agencies deployed by the Governor enjoy our event, the live music from local Austin artists, and American workers coming together to show solidarity, celebrate and learn about the more than 50 organizations working together to make Texas a better place to live.
“We are disappointed that the Governor is choosing to spend Texans’ tax dollars to deploy additional resources to control a non-violent First Amendment event,” Mirto continued, “when there are so many Texans who need quality housing, transportation, health care, education and there are still victims of the devastating July 4 floods right here in Central Texas who need the governor signs executive order providing aid.”
