Fourth person charged in Alabama shooting that killed 2 and injured 12

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A fourth person was arrested and charged Friday in connection with a shooting that killed two people and injured 12 others in a crowded downtown nightlife district of Alabama’s capital in early October, police said.
Kemontae Hood, 21, is charged with one count of capital murder and 12 counts of assault, according to Montgomery police.
Hood is the fourth person charged in the Oct. 4 shooting that happened just before midnight in a crowded downtown area filled with bars, hotels and restaurants. Police also arrested an unnamed juvenile last Friday, as well as Dantavious McGhee, 19, on Monday for capital murder and Javorick Whiting, 19, on Thursday for attempted murder.
It was not immediately clear whether Hood or the others had attorneys who could comment on their behalf. Online jail records do not list their attorneys.
A 43-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were killed, police said. Investigators said they determined that several people fired weapons into a crowd just after the Tuskegee-Morehouse College football game ended a few blocks away, following a day celebrating the longstanding rivalry between the two historically black schools. At the time, five of the injured had life-threatening injuries and seven had non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators have not said what led to the shooting, but they said the first shots were aimed at one of the 14 victims, prompting several people to pull out their own weapons and begin returning fire. Seven of the 14 victims were under 20 years old and the youngest was 16 years old. At least two of the victims were armed.
Several weapons and cases of shells were recovered at the scene and more arrests are expected, police said.
