Trump Axes Colombia Aid, Brands President Gustavo Petro ‘Drug Leader’—Next Move ‘Won’t Be Done Nicely’ – RedState

President Trump on Sunday accused Colombian President Gustavo Petro of being an “illegal drug leader” who encourages mass production of drugs for the U.S. market. He quickly announced the removal of all subsidies and payments to the South American country.
Trump, in a clear sign that his administration will commit its war on drugs against any countries harboring narcoterrorists or promoting the export of fentanyl and other narcotics, also warned Petro to close the “killing fields” throughout Colombia that produce these drugs.
“President Gustavo Petro of Colombia is a leader on illegal drugs who strongly encourages the mass production of drugs, in fields large and small, throughout Colombia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He called drug trafficking “the biggest business in Colombia” and accused Petro of “nothing to stop it.” This is despite “large-scale payments and subsidies from the United States that are nothing but a long-term scam for America.”
“Effective today, these payments, or any other form of payment or grant, will no longer be made to Columbia,” he continued.

Trump then issued warnings to Petro, demanding that it close the fields before the United States stepped in to do it for him. In a way that he might not like.
“The purpose of this drug production is the sale of massive quantities of the product in the United States, causing death, destruction and chaos,” the president wrote.
“Petro, an unpopular and highly unpopular leader with a cool mouth toward America, had better close these battlefields immediately, or the United States will close them for him, and that won’t go well.”
Trump’s warning comes after Petro accused the United States of committing “murder” following a strike on a boat in Colombian territorial waters in September.
“US government officials committed murder and violated our sovereignty in territorial waters,” he wrote on X. “Fisherman Alejandro Carranza had no connection to drug trafficking and his daily activity was fishing.”
Petro claimed that the boat in question “had its distress signal activated due to an engine failure”, while demanding “an explanation from the US government”.

President Trump also announced Thursday that a “drug-carrying submarine” had been destroyed somewhere in the Caribbean, killing two people. A survivor of the defensive strike was repatriated to Colombia.
Trump said military intelligence confirmed the submarine was used by drug traffickers and “loaded primarily with fentanyl and other illegal narcotics.”
“At least 25,000 Americans would die if I let this submarine go ashore. The two surviving terrorists are being returned to their home countries of Ecuador and Colombia to be detained and prosecuted,” he reported.
“Under my leadership, the United States of America will not tolerate narcoterrorists who traffic illegal drugs, by land or sea.”

Earlier this week, the president also increased threats against Venezuela over its drug trafficking efforts. He told reporters that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro had “offered everything” to persuade him to back down in the face of intensifying US strikes on boats suspected of drug trafficking off his country’s coast.
“He has everything offered. He offered everything. You’re right. You know why?” Trump replied. “Because he doesn’t want to mess with the United States.”
Six ships vaporized (that we know of) with only two survivors so far seems to indicate that Trump is very serious about following through. Will Petro heed the warnings?
