Is this Cowboys offense the most potent in the Dak Prescott era? CeeDee Lamb says it’s ‘best one I’ve been on’

ARLINGTON, Texas — The 2025 Dallas Cowboys offense in Week 7 showcased its full cast of playmakers with All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb returning after a three-game absence due to a sprained ankle, and All-Pro return man/wide receiver KaVontae Turpin returning to the fold.
As a result, Dallas turned Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium into an offensive fireworks display in a dominant 44-22 victory over the NFC East rival Washington Commanders. How good is Dallas’ offensive attack in 2025, averaging 31.7 points per game (third best in the NFL in “Sunday Night Football and “Monday Night Football”) and 390.6 total yards per game (best in the NFL in “Sunday Night Football and “Monday Night Football”)? Lamb, who exploded for 110 yards and a touchdown (a 74-yarder) on five catches, believes this year’s Cowboys offense that features himself and 1B wide receiver George Pickens (four catches for 82 yards Sunday) is the best of his career in Dallas, which began in 2020.
“This is the best one I’ve been a part of, and I’ve been a part of some great ones. It’s just how we can move these pieces and these players,” Lamb said after the game Sunday. “Everyone knows where to go. Everyone lines up faster than anyone else. [I’ve been on]. It’s hard.”
Lamb’s sentiment can certainly be backed up by his and his teammates’ production, both individually and collectively. The 31.7 points per game Dallas is currently averaging is the most of any Dak Prescott-led team since 2016, just ahead of the 31.2 points per game the Cowboys offense is averaging in 2021. The 2025 Cowboys are also the third team in NFL history to score at least 40 points in each of their first three home games of a season, joining the 2025 Cowboys. Roger Staubach and Tom Landry from 1973 and the 2000 St. Louis Rams’ “Greatest Show on Turf,” according to CBS Sports Research.
“I don’t want to take anything away from those guys…but I will tell you Lamb’s ability to really make a difference on offense. Now Pickens has that ability with our running game as well,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said after the game. “Really, I feel as good about this offense as I have in a long time here.”
Pickens and tight end Jake Ferguson each have six receiving touchdowns this year, career highs for both who are tied for the most in the entire NFL entering “Sunday Night Football” and “Monday Night Football” in Week 7. Pickens’ 607 receiving yards are fourth-most in the NFL. Ferguson’s 51 catches are third in the NFL. Ferguson is the first tight end in NFL history with at least 50 catches (51) and six receiving touchdowns (6) through the first seven games of a season. Running back Javonte Williams’ 592 rushing yards are second in football, while his six rushing touchdowns are third in the league. Prescott’s 16 passing touchdowns are second-most in the NFL, just one behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s 17.
“It’s not a knock on any other group I’ve ever been a part of, but the chemistry, the camaraderie, the trash talk, the emotions and the passion of this unit – it’s there as much as I’ve ever seen it,” Prescott said after the game. “Sure, we have some young guys that are probably a big part of it, but we have guys that work their butts off every day, and I say this all the time, trust is earned. … This group practices the right way, and they’ve earned the trust. They go out there, and we play with it and it’s fun. It’s really fun. It’s a collaborative effort, and it’s not about me. It’s not about one person in this group. It’s about how we all play for each other, going 1/11 every game and seeing what the outcome is afterward. »
Much of that production has taken place over the last four games, and the result is that the 2025 Cowboys offense is now just the fifth since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger to average at least 35 points per game without a turnover over a four-game span in a single season, according to CBS Sports Research. Other such events were the 2010 New England Patriots offenses led by Tom Brady (2010 and 2014 – Brady was the NFL MVP in 2010) and the 2010 Green Bay Packers offenses led by Aaron Rodgers (2014 and 2020 – Rodgers won the NFL MVP in both of those seasons).
“I think we have an outstanding leader in our quarterback, and we have an exceptional player in our quarterback,” Jones said.

Speaking of Prescott, his 13 passing touchdowns since Week 4 during this historic four-game stretch lead the NFL during that span, and he’s thrown at least three scoring strikes without an interception in all four games of this magical run. This is now tied for the second-most consecutive games with at least three passing touchdowns and no interceptions in NFL history. Prescott is in a club with quarterbacks like Drew Brees (2019), Rodgers (2014), Peyton Manning (2013-2014) and Brady (2007) in this regard.
“A lot of things are falling into place. That’s all the work I’ve put into this. Personally, a lot of work in the off-season to get the team together in the spring, in training camp. The success in these last few games just increases the confidence.” Prescott talked about that four-game stretch when asked by CBS Sports. “I know who I am. I feel good throwing the ball. When you have pass catchers like those two guys [Pickens and Lamb]…. Turp [KaVontae Turpin], [Jalen] Tolbert, Flo [Ryan Flournoy] who play and take advantage of their opportunities whenever they present themselves. I’m just going to keep pushing myself to improve. You’ve been there, you understand this, that’s all I want to do.
“Dak is playing great. You know, I’m not trying to not make a big deal about his great play, but that’s what we expect from Dak, and he’s got some incredible weapons,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said after the game. … “But you see the confidence he has in these guys.”
Is Prescott more proud of his 13 touchdowns or no interceptions in this historic stretch? His answer: a bit of both.
“I’m not sure. “I think they go hand in hand to be honest. When you take care of the ball, you have more opportunities to score touchdowns, and that’s what leads to that,” Prescott said. “Not counting touchdowns, interceptions are probably true. I couldn’t tell you how many touchdowns there were, but I can tell you I didn’t throw an interception. I try to be smart, but without hesitation, fear or caution at the same time. I have a lot of confidence in what I can do, where I can put it and the guys I throw it to, so it’s just a result of that. »

No play exemplifies Prescott’s confidence in his weapons more than his 74-yard deep touchdown pass to Lamb. Pickens was actually the No. 1 read on this play, and the way he was designed to run his route was for him to get a deep ball to go to the house. Prescott was ready to make that throw, but then he saw Lamb’s hand go up and he made the jump to the old reliable, #88. This led to Lamb and Pickens dancing together in the end zone for a quick 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
“It wasn’t the course we expected. It was built for him [Lamb] to execute a deep cross right there. I read one, which was George [Pickens]”, then I see the big window where if he had run that route he would have had a good play, not a touchdown,” Prescott said. “I looked for CeeDee, and he put his hands up and said, ‘I’m here.’ At that moment I saw security or the corner on the right. I just put everything I had on the line, understanding that I could just lob it and both guys would be able to play and try to give them a chance. He [Lamb] did a good job of taking two steps back, catching the ball and getting into the end zone. Again, it’s a play that’s not successful unless you have confidence in the guy you’re throwing to and that guy is smart and understands defense, understands the look and understands that he can seize the opportunity. We were able to capitalize on that.”
That’s why Schottenheimer called the play a “mailbox” play: Lamb raised his hand and Prescott found it. Pickens running his route past Lamb created confusion in the secondary as two Commanders defenders collided during the play.
“It’s no surprise to me. He always helps me, you know what I mean?” Lamb said when asked if Pickens paved the way for him in the room. “That’s why we brought it here. It’s exciting, and it was the first person I saw after I caught it. There was no one there, so I already knew what it was.”
Lamb called it “our touchdown” as the two pranced together down the sideline and into the end zone.
“At that point it turns into a touchdown. It’s just whoever brings the ball back,” Lamb said. “I feel like I will continue to do this and many more in the future.”
Before this game, Prescott felt comfortable pointing to Lamb and Pickens was his best wide receiver duo evereven better than the tandem of Pro Bowler Amari Cooper and a younger version of Lamb in 2021. With his old No. 88 Dez Bryant in the building for Dallas’ 2025 homecoming game on Sunday, he joked that he was going to say that a little softer, but he affirmed that sentiment once again.
“It’s up to you. Dez [Bryant] “I was right there too, so don’t say that too loud,” Prescott said with a laugh. “These guys are incredible. They are, and it’s a credit to them. It’s because of the way they show up and work every day. It’s a credit to the standards they have for themselves. It’s because of the love they have for each other, the way they push each other. They certainly are.”
Lamb and Pickens are “definitely” Prescott’s best wide receiver duo in his 10-year career, and the more he continues to produce so the 2025 Cowboys offense will begin to separate itself along with the best of the Prescott era (2016-present) in Dallas.
“There are no limits,” Prescott said.
