As biodiversity declines, it becomes increasingly important to locate and conserve the planet’s plant life. Millennium Seed Bank in Wakehurst, West Sussex, has been doing just that for 25 years, collecting and storing seeds and keeping them in trust for countries around the world when needed. To mark this anniversary, Patrick Greenfield toured the site. He tells Madeleine Finlay about the journey of a seed from its arrival to its cold storage, and how some are already helping to bring endangered plant species back into nature.
