Bruno Fernandes reveals how Man United outsmarted Liverpool

Manchester United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League yesterday.
They were bouncing back from a win before the international break and took that confidence into the draw against the Reds at Anfield.
Amorim’s team opened the scoring in the second minute before Liverpool restored parity in the second half via Cody Gakpo, who hit the post twice.
United regained the lead thanks to a Harry Maguire header, inflicting a fourth successive defeat on the Premier League champions.
After the match, Man United captain Bruno Fernandes revealed how they managed to tame their arch rivals.
The Portuguese midfield maestro said (via BBC): “We knew we had to win our duels. In the first ten minutes we knew they would try to start the game very strong.
“Also, in the first half we understood that they were under pressure when they had time with the ball, the fans put them in a difficult position and booed them to play faster.
“We wanted to slow down their game and we knew that would give massive spaces in the middle. In the second half we could have played with the ball a little more.”
Fernandes’ comments were echoed by defender Matthijs De Ligt, who added that United were specifically targeting Liverpool’s full-backs, knowing their vulnerabilities.
It’s an admission that will give Liverpool boss Arne Slot food for thought as he looks to stabilize a team that has now lost four.
The balance between their offensive verve and defensive exposure remains a key question.
For Man United, this victory represents more than three points. This represents momentum that the Amorim team must now build on.
With Brighton & Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur next, these back-to-back wins provide a foundation of confidence.
Maintaining this confidence could finally create the consistency that has eluded the Red Devils for months.
