Dashcam video of a fatal crash on a California highway involving a suspected illegal immigrant truck driver in a tractor-trailer shows the vehicle plowing into traffic bumper-to-bumper in a wreck that killed three people.

Jashanpreet Singh, 21, received a California commercial driver’s license in June, according to the federal Department of Transportation.

The video shows the truck he is accused of driving rear-ending into a row of cars stuck in traffic before flames erupted under the hood and it veered to the right, crashing into other vehicles and what appeared to be utility trucks before coming to a stop near the shoulder.

In September, federal officials warned California that they had discovered compliance issues with those licenses and demanded corrections, including suspending the issuance of new licenses to noncitizens and reviewing existing licenses to ensure they followed the rules.

Those who did not meet the criteria were supposed to be dismissed. However, on October 15, Singh turned 21 and a restriction on his license was removed, according to the DOT.

However, under a DOT emergency policy, he should have been disqualified, authorities said.

Six days later, authorities said Singh was driving a tractor-trailer while allegedly under the influence of drugs when he crashed into a row of stopped cars on the highway, killing three people.

“My prayers go out to the families of the victims of this tragedy,” US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Thursday evening.

“This would never have happened if Gavin Newsom had followed our new rules,” he continued. “California broke the law and now three people are dead and two are hospitalized. These people deserve justice. There will be consequences.”

A spokesperson for Newsom’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

On October 22, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detention request for Singh. He remains imprisoned in San Bernardino County.

ICE described him as “a criminal illegal alien.” He is originally from India.

“This is a terrible tragedy. Three innocent people lost their lives because of reckless open border policies that allowed an illegal alien to be released into the United States and drive an 18-wheeler on America’s highways,” Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “This crash follows a disturbing trend of illegal aliens driving 18-wheelers and tractor-trailers on America’s roads. Earlier this week, DHS highlighted another fatal crash in Indiana caused by an illegal alien driving a tractor-trailer. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is working day in and day out to make America’s roads safe again.”

A fatal accident also occurred under similar circumstances in Florida.
