Faster Speeds For a Fair Price

While the iPhone 16 Pro launched with 25W wireless charging capabilities, it took manufacturers an entire year to adopt this new standard. The Ugreen MagFlow 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger is one such offering that finally realizes that potential, although it’s also slightly ill-suited to Apple’s new kits.

25W Qi2 charging is finally here
When I reviewed Apple’s 25W wireless charging puck released with the iPhone 16 Pro, I found that while my testing didn’t live up to Apple’s high expectations, it was most certainly faster than 15W chargers (around 58%). This left me excited that reputable manufacturers would follow suit with 25W iterations of their chargers, but that never happened.
That finally changed with the release of the iPhone 17 Pro. With two generations of iPhones capable of 25W wireless charging on the market, the usual suspects are refreshing their lineups to meet the need for speed. Ugreen is among the first to do so with its MagFlow line, which includes a new version of its 2-in-1 portable stand.
My testing of the 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger is in the same ballpark as the Apple Puck, delivering charging at speeds 60% faster. This is a huge, clear improvement in performance, with no downsides. First-time buyers should definitely get a 25W charger (whether from Ugreen or another brand). At the same time, given that desktop chargers generally have less onus to quickly recharge batteries, it’s hard to call this a necessity for anyone using a 15W purely on speed.
That said, there’s another reason why this 2-in-1 might be worth paying the fair price of $60: its improved cooling. The 25W Phone pad and the 5W AirPods pad rarely got hot, and the few times it did, it was to a negligible extent. Considering how many 15W charging stations I tested suffered from this issue, this is a big quality of life improvement. (It helps that the iPhone 17 Pro itself also has better cooling to help with this.)
I wish the USB-C port was also fast
I was less enthusiastic about the USB-C port. I’m glad there’s one, but the 5W charging speed is painfully slow.
While USB-C pass-through is ultimately a bonus for a 2-in-1 charger, I couldn’t help but think I’d have more convenient use if it offered higher wired charging speeds in exchange for the latest generation of wireless charging. The best use case is to plug in an Apple Watch pad, allowing you to simulate a 3-in-1 charger at a very low price. Beyond that, it’s more like Ugreen ticking a box.
All that said, it’s a net positive to have slow charging instead of none at all. This can be a lifesaver when traveling if you only have access to one outlet or power adapter but need a third device charged.
iPhone 17 Pro and AirPods Pro 3 don’t fit well
If you’re using an iPhone 16 Pro and any generation of AirPods prior to the AirPods Pro 3, you can rest assured that this design will fit your devices without issue. If you’re using an iPhone 17 Pro and/or AirPods Pro 3, things get uncomfortably cramped.
When the dock’s neck and 25W charger are in the perfect vertical position, the added thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro and the elongated shape of the AirPods Pro 3 case are just a hair’s breadth from touching. The AirPods Pro 3’s case ran along the back of the phone every time I connected or detached it, which looks ready to be scratched from the phone. The biggest problem comes when that perfect positioning is misaligned in some way, causing the two to compete for the same space. This leaves the iPhone 17 Pro half discharged from its charger. While this could be fixed by repositioning the dock (or completely avoidable by docking the phone in landscape mode), it was a consistent enough problem that I wouldn’t make it my primary charging station for newly released Apple devices.
Certainly, I can’t fault Ugreen too much. The company could not have predicted the exact specifications of Apple’s latest products. The charger is otherwise solidly designed, taking up minimal desk space and folding into a portable cube. If Ugreen can make some changes to better fit the iPhone 17 Pro and AirPods Pro 3, it will make this dock a clear winner.
Should you buy the Ugreen MagFlow 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger?
If you’re an iPhone 16 Pro user, the Ugreen MagFlow 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger delivers the fastest wireless charging speeds you’ve come to expect and is easy to recommend, especially if portability is important. However, if you’re looking to charge an iPhone 17 Pro and/or AirPods Pro 3, you may find that its miniature size clashes with larger devices. It’s still great value at $60.
