Harmeet Dhillon Schools Gavin Newsom on Fake Election Monitor Outrage

Harmeet Dhillon, the California lawyer who heads the civil rights division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), mocked California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) for his outrage over federal election observers.
Newsom, obsessed with attacking President Donald Trump on social media, posted a video in which he claimed Trump was sending election observers to California to intimidate voters and expose fraud.
Newsom appeared to borrow a page from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a potential rival for the Democratic Party’s 2028 presidential nomination, who has claimed that the deployment of the National Guard to Democratic-run, crime-ridden cities is actually a ploy by Trump to declare martial law and end democratic rule.
Regardless, Dhillon pointed out that President Joe Biden also sent election observers to California:
As Fox News noted:
The Justice Department has sent election observers to California twice during the Biden administration, during the 2022 general election and 2024 general elections.
“This is not a federal election,” says Newsom’s press office posted on. “The U.S. DOJ has no reason to intervene in this election. It’s all about whether California amends its state constitution.”
…
The Biden Justice Department also sent election resources to several non-federal elections, including Municipal elections in Alaska in October 2023, a New Jersey off-year general elections in 2023 and a Mississippi General Off-Year in 2023.
Newsom and Pritzker appear to believe that Democratic Party primary voters are more interested in how vigorously the candidates opposed Trump than how effectively they governed or what they accomplished.
