1 dead, 6 injured in homecoming shooting at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania

One person died and six others were injured after a shooting Saturday evening on the campus of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, the Chester County district attorney said.
District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said at a nightly news conference that seven people were shot during the college’s homecoming festivities. He said one person was in police custody and in possession of a firearm.
The school was closed, but has since been lifted. Officials said they do not believe there is an active threat to campus.
The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. at the school’s tailgate and playground event near the football field. The school is located on Baltimore Pike in western Chester County, approximately 50 miles from Philadelphia.
The prosecutor’s office is asking people to avoid the area because surrounding roads have been blocked.
CBS News Philadelphia spoke to a witness who said they saw a person receiving CPR.
People were seen running for cover, and several others were treated after being knocked to the ground and trampled, officials said.
It’s unclear what exactly led to the shooting.
In an Instagram post, the university said counseling services would be available from 10 a.m. on Sunday for students and staff who need support.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said on
“Please join me in praying for the students and faculty at Lincoln University, as well as the brave law enforcement personnel at the scene. It appears there was a mass shooting there this evening,” Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe said in a Facebook post.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is the nation’s oldest historically black degree-granting college or university.
