This prequel series from Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the brother-sister duo behind Computing and Informatics: Chapter Two will offer audiences mind-blowing new stories involving Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Now, fans of the R-rated horror films starring Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise might think they know what to expect from this new series. Cool, cool, cool. You are wrong.

Mashable’s entertainment team has been completely gagged – in both directions – by IT: Welcome to Derrywhich is based on three interludes from Stephen King’s novel HE. And while we won’t share spoilers for the horrors about to unfold, we do want to give you a simple warning:

Don’t plan to eat while watching the first episode of IT: Welcome to Derry.

Look, you might think you’re too immersed in horror, too big a King fan, too loyal to the gut to let a TV show shake you up. But first, to quote an old but true motto: “It’s not television.” It’s HBO.”

It’s the network that gave us the corpse of True Detective: Land of the Night and the absolutely heartbreaking second season of The last of us. HBO originally meant Home Box Office, but it could mean Horror Bloody Outrageous.

As Belen Edwards’ review teases, IT: Welcome to Derry pulls no punches when it comes to its macabre settings. And the first episode offers several absolutely macabre sequences. So, do yourself a favor: eat or snack well before you sit down for those unhinged beginnings.

Beyond all that, there’s a lot of setup in this first episode that you won’t want to miss. And then there are moments so shocking and twisted you won’t believe your eyes. So put the popcorn aside. Avoid anything red or bloody. Hey, maybe even avoid the Cracker Jacks. Trust us.

There are TV shows, like True Detective And Extraterrestrial: Earth, that demand your full attention on a full stomach. Because otherwise, it’s going to be a difficult night.

IT: Welcome to Derry debuts Sunday, October 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes are released every week.
