Long Island motorist with 80 license suspensions arrested

Long Island police arrested and impounded the car of a man whose driver’s license was suspended 80 times.
A Suffolk County police officer first stopped the Toyota driven by Walter Castilla Ochoa when he was “observed operating the vehicle without a seat belt” around noon Thursday.
But that’s when the officer realized the 45-year-old Huntington Station man had been hit with 80 different license suspensions on 13 different dates.
His Toyota was impounded, according to Suffolk County police.
Ochoa was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, which is a felony in New York State. Cops said he will spend the night in jail Thursday before being arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
Suffolk County police did not provide details on the nature of license suspensions, which can occur for a variety of reasons. These can include administrative issues such as unpaid traffic tickets or expired insurance, as well as major violations like drunk driving and traffic assaults.
