The ‘Blexas’ Movement Gets More Potentially Bad News Ahead of 2026 – RedState

It seems like every election cycle our so-called intellectual superiors on the left/in the media tell us that Blexas was happening, that this was the election cycle that was finally going to turn Texas blue.

We saw this, for example, with the Ted Cruz/Beto O’Rourke Senate race in 2018. We were treated to endless compliments from the usual suspects about O’Rourke, with frequent comparisons of him to members of the Kennedy family. Even Beto himself would do it, as a then-interview with Town and Country Magazine shared in an article that described him as “a Kennedy longshot in a seething red state.”

Describing people who wanted to have their picture taken with him on a trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts, after he won his congressional race in 2012, he said, “I realize: They don’t think I’m Beto, they think I’m Joe Kennedy, or at least a Kennedy.” When he told them who he was, O’Rourke said he “could just see the shiver coming out of their eyes.”

After the 2024 election, statements were made that “Blexas is dead”, based in part on the results of the Lone Star State’s presidential election, which saw Vice President Kamala Harris receive approximately 450,000 fewer votes than Joe Biden in 2020.

But, y’all, Blexas could be poised to really rise this time around in 2026, as Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) is making a possible run for Senate in 2026:

Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett is taking new steps to launch a Senate campaign, including spending heavily on polling and meeting with a potential campaign manager.

Crockett told POLITICO’s Dasha Burns on an episode of “The Conversation” that she is “seriously considering” a bid to replace Republican Sen. John Cornyn and is commissioning a poll to see how she stacks up against a potentially crowded primary field.

“I’m seriously considering it, to the point where I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” she said.

She says she was inspired in part by the fact that Texas had redrawn its district, and also because she saw data that suggested she could win the primary race:

“The other option is every other day there’s a poll that clearly shows I can win the primary for the U.S. Senate race in Texas, and I’m watching, because if you’re going to take away my 766,000 seat, I feel like there has to be some karma in me taking your seat which is for 30 million seats,” Crockett said on Sirius.

In the event she decides not to run, or does so but fails in the primary, Crockett also made it clear that she would like to challenge Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in 2030:

Crockett used violent language to describe Republicans and called for Cruz to “be knocked over the head, hard.”

It is my opinion that Republicans should never take their foot off the gas, metaphorically speaking, even in congressional districts and states where they have historically had many electoral victories. The idea is to treat each campaign as if you were 20 points behind – if you are 20 points ahead.

That includes Texas, where even Cruz stressed that Republicans shouldn’t take the state for granted, pointing out that Democrats have pumped hundreds of millions into the state in previous election cycles.

That said, I suspect that Cruz and whichever Republican wins the contested 2026 GOP Senate primary would almost pay money for Crockett to enter the race, because not only would that ensure an entertaining primary storyline from Democrats in disarray, but also because, if they win the primary, they could present her as the face of Texas Democrats and national Democrats, much like we saw happen with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and, more recently, with Zohran Mamdani, Democratic candidate for mayor of New York.

Editor’s note: Schumer’s closure is here. Rather than putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and radical Democrats forced a government shutdown on health care for illegal immigrants. They own that.
