Table of contents
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are SO back. After storming the theaters this summer, Weirdest Friday officially blesses the small screen this season.
In the sequel to their beloved 2003 body-swap comedy Weird Fridayanother mystical body swap spell is in progress. And this time it’s double the madness, with Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters joining the cast. Directed by Nisha Ganatra, Weirdest Friday sees the mother-daughter heroines we know and love (Curtis’ Dr. Tess Coleman and Lohan’s Anna Coleman) swap bodies with two bickering teenagers, resulting in the ultimate generational clash and comic mayhem.
If you missed it in the theaters or can’t wait to see it again, you’ll be happy to know that the sequel is now available to watch at home. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is Weirdest Friday about?
Set more than two decades later Weird Friday, Weirdest Friday follows an adult Anna Coleman (Lohan), a 36-year-old single mother to Harper (Butters), working as a manager for insecure pop idol Ella (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan). She is engaged to Chef Eric (Manny Jacinto), who has his own daughter, Lily (Hammons). Harper and Lily are high school enemies and will do anything they can to break up their parents. The wedding is fast approaching and the ladies – including Dr. Tess Coleman (Curtis), therapist/podcaster/author and Harper’s grandparent – are at their wits’ end with each other. That’s where a whimsical psychic/life coach/barista played by Vanessa Bayer comes in to perform the magical body-swap spell.

Does the Weird Friday a sequel to see?
Weirdest Friday was a box office success over the summer, with a domestic opening weekend of $29 million ($153 million total). This became the best August premiere ever for a PG or G rated film. Not too bad for a sequel. Of course, much of this is due to the positive word of mouth that comes from the theater. It currently holds a critic rating of 74 percent and a whopping 91 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mashable’s own reviewer writes: “In the end, More weird Friday is no better than the original. But it’s fun, entertaining and funny. In addition to Curtis and Lohan’s winning performances, there’s a meta joy in seeing a true wild child return to her roots for a victory lap. That she can let off steam while doing it is even better.”
