Blackmagic has released an update to its free camera app with new features that professional streamers and broadcasters will appreciate. The Android and iOS versions of the Blackmagic Camera app can now stream directly to YouTube, Twitch and Vimeo, eliminating the need for third-party apps or additional encoding hardware. Simply select your platform and enter a secure feed key. While streaming, you’ll still have access to the app’s controls so you can adjust settings like exposure and focus on the fly.

The update also adds support for SRT: a more modern streaming protocol frequently used by professional broadcasters and optimized for networks with less consistent speeds and reliability, like the Internet. The Blackmagic Camera also supports custom RTMP and SRT servers for streamers wanting alternatives to the three native platforms now supported.

Other improvements to the app include detailed and immediate alerts when an external drive is disconnected to prevent data loss when working with high-resolution, high frame rate Apple ProRes files that the iPhone cannot save internally. And there is now an option to select the number of multiple viewing angles while monitoring remote cameras, allowing more flexibility when customizing the layout of multiple video streams on a device with a larger screen like an iPad or Mac.
