Landmark Paris Agreement set a path to slow warming. The world hasn't stayed on it

The world has experienced faster-than-expected climate change since the Paris Agreement a decade ago. Scientists say Earth’s warming has outpaced efforts to reduce fossil fuel pollution from the 2015 deal. The issue will be at the center of UN climate talks this week in Brazil. Some progress has been made, such as cheaper renewable energy and increased sales of electric vehicles. But the harms of warming have wiped out these gains. Extreme weather events, such as major Atlantic hurricanes, have increased since 2015. More than 7 trillion tons of ice have melted. The sea reached enough water to fill 30 lakes the size of Lake Erie.
