November means vacation is on the horizon, and with it comes more free time to do what we love most: watching movies. Amazon Prime Video maintains an impressive rotation, so I’ve picked out a few winners to pair with your popcorn this week.

First, we engage in some stand-up comedy with one of my favorite comics, then we travel back to the 80s to have breakfast with the coolest group of high schoolers on the planet. After that, it’s time for sci-fi with an alien investigation film, followed by a sword-and-sandals epic and a new Amazon Original starring Mr. Funky Bunch himself, Mark Wahlberg.

These are the five movies you need to watch on Prime Video this week.

Tom Segura: Completely Normal (2014)

Every time I sit down to watch comedian Tom Segura, I’m never disappointed. I love the deadpan sarcasm with which he delivers his stories as much as his understated approach to everything.

In his 2014 special, Tom Segura: Completely normalthe cool comedian lets himself be vulnerable and opens up about his hobbies and digestive ailments, while sharing with us his nonchalant assessments of hotels. He also gives his opinion on a certain type of reality TV and on being a good Samaritan. You will laugh at its unique style of entertainment, which will surely put you in a relaxed state of mind and leave you with a new perspective. Segura has plenty of other specials available on the platform, so be sure to check them out if you like its style.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

The breakfast club was pretty much every Gen-Xer’s anthem growing up, and for good reason. It’s a timeless classic that continues to have social relevance, and it features some of the most quoted dialogue not only from the ’80s but in cinematic history.

John Hughes’ iconic film takes us back to school and takes place in the one place every kid hates: Saturday detention at the library. Yawn. The comedy-drama follows five high school students, all from different backgrounds, as they find themselves stuck in detention all day together, under the watchful eye of a harsh, power-hungry principal. Once they break through their harsh social barriers, they slowly reveal themselves and change their perspectives and perceptions forever. By finding each other, they also find their limits and are able to unite, despite their differences.

Trust me: you want to spend some time in detention with star athlete Andrew (Emilio Estevez, The Mighty Ducks: game changers), high school bully John Bender (Judd Nelson, South of Hope Street), social princess Claire Standish (Molly Ringwald, from Riverdale), class brainiac Brian Johnson (Anthony Michael Hall, from Reach), and lonely outcast Allison Reynolds (Ally Sheedy, from Drunk single woman). The breakfast club is undoubtedly one of the best films of all time.

Gladiator II (2024)

An action-packed sword-and-sandal epic full of gladiators, seduction, betrayal and bloodsport? Yes, please, but go for it, because I want the middle seat.

Gladiator II is the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s film Gladiator (2000), whose story picks up more than a decade after the events of the original film. The sequel takes us directly back into the arena of blood and sand by following the story of Lucius Verus (Paul Mescal, from All of us strangers), son of Gladiator‘s Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe) and grandson of the late Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

After his mother sent him as a child to the northern coast of Africa to protect him from Rome, Lucius was taken prisoner 15 years later by soldiers unaware of his identity. Now a prisoner, he is forced to fight for his life in the gladiator arena of Rome. What they don’t know, however, is that Lucius will do anything to get revenge on the Roman Empire. As luck would have it, his athletic skills and inherent rage are soon spotted by the former gladiator turned man of power named Macrinus (Denzel Washington), and a conspiracy is brewed when he uses Lucius as a weapon to launch a long-desired revolution.

Play Dirty (2025)

Based on the series by Donald E. Westlake Parker novels about a hardened criminal and a master thief, Play dirty is a comedy-action thriller that is also Amazon’s latest original film.

In this 90s adaptation, Mark Walberg plays Parker and LaKeith Stanfield (The Changeling) is Philadelphia: both are professional thieves. When they carry out a heist in a racetrack tally room and you know what hits the fans, the two find themselves in the last place they want to be: facing the New York mafia.

Expect to be entertained by this plot to bring down a dictator, which has its share of amusement between its violently imaginative scenes. It also boasts a cast including Robert Downey Jr., Keegan-Michael Key (Only murders in the building), Thomas Jeanne (Troppo), Tony Shaloub (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Rosa Salazar (Download), Natt Wolf (The stand), and Chukwudi Iwuji (The Day of the Jackal).
