Report: The next iPhone Air update is up in the air due to terrible sales

The iPhone Air was released over a month ago, and multiple reports indicate that Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone isn’t winning over customers. Apparently, the situation has deteriorated to a point where, according to The Information, Apple has decided not to move forward with an update to the iPhone Air which was scheduled for release in 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and the rumored foldable iPhone.
It has been reported that iPhone Air production lines will be scaled back by Apple supplier Foxconn and production may stop completely at the end of this month. Another Apple supplier, Luxshare, reportedly stopped production of the iPhone Air last month, with no sign of reprogramming, The Information reports.
Apple was looking for an iPhone model that complemented the standard and pro models, but its offerings fell short of expectations. The iPhone Plus, a larger version of the standard iPhone, apparently did not appeal to customers. The iPhone Air replaced the Plus with a new slim profile that generated a bit of hype, but it was also met with mixed commercial reception.
The iPhone Air is seen as essentially half of the foldable phone that Apple is expected to release next year. Foldable phones cater to a niche market, and it remains to be seen whether a foldable iPhone can play the role Apple hoped for the iPhone Plus and iPhone Air.
